The 2019 vintage was a glorious, cool year, beginning with copious spring rains with great beautiful and healthy canopies. The vintage was reminiscent of the stunning 2018 vintage, yet the wines have their own hallmark of vibrant freshness, terrific intensity, bright acidity, silky entries, and long, driven finishes. Pinot and Chardonnay triumphed in this vintage, perhaps even more than the Bordeaux varietals. There is much to love about the wines from this beautiful vintage.
The Rued Vineyard is filled with gorgeous, old, gnarled, mossy vines on a gentle slope in a cool spot in between Graton and Occidental. These vines are lovingly farmed by Ulises Valdez, with plenty of attention to detail. The slow ripening at this site seems to lead to ever-evolving wines with incredible concentration and depth.
2019 was a fantastic vintage for the Sonoma Coast and we wanted to capture the unique character and essence of the Russian River Valley terroir in this Rued Vineyard Chardonnay. The wine is 100% Chardonnay, sourced from two separate blocks of the impeccably managed and organically farmed Rued vineyard. Pair it with scallops in a lemon beurre blanc sauce, or a creamy asparagus and Parmesan risotto which will really help bring out the wine's yin-yang balance of coastal freshness and ripe fruit complexity.
