Kerr Cellars first purchased fruit from this beautiful site in 2021. The summer leading up to the 2021 harvest was ideal, with warm days and cool nights. The continued drought in addition to a few frost events in the spring meant the crop was a bit smaller than usual, but exceptionally high in quality. Bottled in May of 2023 we are excited to share our new single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Mast Ranch soon!
Tasting Notes
The 2021 Mast Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon has an enticing, dark nose with layers of fruit and spice notes – cassis, plum, brambly blackberry, licorice, bittersweet chocolate, and incense. The gorgeous palate is rich, yet silky, with terrific freshness and balance, and superfine tannins to underpin the intense flavors of dark berry compote, baking spices, mocha, and cedar. This is a delicious wine that continues to open and develop in the glass. It will drink well in the near term, and cellar effortlessly.

Latin Translation: From Soil to Bottle
Nestled against the hills of the Mayacamas just north of Napa in the Yountville AVA Mast Ranch is a stunning reflection of the quality Cabernet Napa Valley has to offer. A pre-historic fast-moving river deposited a layer of rocks and gravel which over time have been covered with layers of soil. This creates an ideal level of drainage within the vineyard encouraging the vine’s roots to run deep, and as a result produce small, concentrated berries bursting with flavor.
Philosophy
While an ideal site is critical for a quality vineyard it also takes a knowledgeable vineyard team with meticulous attention to detail, and that is where Larry Bettinelli comes into the story. A 5th generation farmer in Napa Valley, Larry was named Napa Valley Grape grower of the year in 2016. He and his team at Bettinelli Vineyard Management are hyper focused on every detail and constantly adapting and incorporating new information and technologies as they become available.
