Tasting Notes
The 2019 Cabernet Franc from Sage Ridge Vineyard has wonderful depth and balance. Lifted aromas are of blackberries, crème de cassis, fallen pine needles, fresh aromatic herbs, violets, black peppercorn. Flavors are pure and dark – black plum, blackberry, cedar, black olive. The mouthfeel is full-bodied, yet round and velvety, with supple fine tannins and an incredibly lengthy finish. This wine is in an optimal drinking window now, yet will cellar easily another 10-15 years.

Winemaker Notes
The 2019 vintage was one of the cooler vintages of the last decade. Ample spring rains fueled healthy canopy growth and a crop that was nearly as generous as 2018. The first half of the growing season was moderate, and therefore somewhat extended. This allowed the vines time to slow their growth heading into veraison and maximize their nutrient uptake and pre-ripening photosynthesis. The second half of the season, in which the grapes ripen and are harvested, was warm, with some heat during the harvest period, leading to wines of incredible silkiness, fresh and pure fruit, elegant texture, and impressive length.

The vineyard was planted in 1999 and covers approximately 42 acres of land, with about 35 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, and smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Sage Ridge Vineyard has breathtaking views of the valley, with and stunning surrounding scenery. Navigating the vineyard is no joke! The vines are planted in well-draining volcanic soils, which contribute to the unique flavors and characteristics of the wines. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices, with a focus on preserving the natural beauty and resources of the land. Overall, Sage Ridge Vineyard is a unique and exceptional vineyard within the Atlas Peak AVA, known for its high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon wines, volcanic soils, and sustainable farming practices.
